History:
In the perspective of the Machismo Bibliography, the problem of sexism in the Latino Culture has been around for a very long time (Gonzalez-Lopez, 2012). She explains that Europeans discovered the word earlier, and that the word for this sexism is “machismo”. Thanks to Ricardo we have an idea on why this issue has not been resolved. In the article, “The Other Side of Machismo”, Ricardo reveals that as he grew up, his father taught him that a man should never cry. Lopez explains that his father said to him, “men do not cry”, proving that he grew up to believe that emotions are only for women and women only. He also included that in the community he grew up in womanizers were always highly respected, because they were viewed as tough men. Therefore, machismo is seen as something normal in the Latino Community. It is difficult to stop this issue because Latinos grow up believing this is okay.
